With over 180 boys playing, football is a popular and successful sport at Millfield.  A total of 12 teams ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to play in competitive matches and tournaments and full time footballers enjoy a busy schedule, playing teams from all over England.

Our excellent facilities (11 full sized pitches and three training areas) and team of 19 coaches, including former South African international Terry Akhurst, two UEFA A and three UEFA B licenced coaches, enable every pupil to maximise his skill and fulfil his potential. Players are monitored during the season and first team players in particular are given strict training guidelines. All teams are taught various patterns of play which inculcate the confidence to keep possession of the ball. The 1st XI train up to six days a week which includes playing one match. All other teams train at least three times per week and play one match.

Pupils compete in an array of competitions and tournaments, interspersed with numerous friendly games. Alongside national fixtures Millfield also arranges a number of international tours, such as to Holland, Russia, Florida, South Africa and Barcelona.

We have had several representations at County, ISFA and ESFA level and were pleased to see Abdul Kadir get selected for the English Schools team in 2016. Abdul is the seventh player to be selected for English Schools joining Ben Lewis, Tom Hurley, Harrison Dunk, Lewis Irish, James Golby and Jason Clarke. Current professional players include Lawrie Wilson (Charlton Athletic), Ben Nugent (Cardiff FC); Harrison Dunk (Cambridge), Reuben Reid (Plymouth Argyle) and Tyrone Mings (Bournemouth AFC). The U15 team won the ISFA Investec cup in 2016.
