Millfield Pre-Prep School mark Remembrance with members of Royal British Legion
Millfield Pre-Prep marked Remembrance Day with a moving assembly led by Year 2 pupils and attended by local members of The Royal British Legion. All of the children aged 2-7 years attended and stood for a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the fallen.
The assembly was an opportunity for the children to learn about the history of Remembrance Day, and was poignantly marked with a rendition of the Last Post from one of the members of the Street branch of The Royal British Legion. Every child in the school also created a clay poppy and took them home as a memento of the event.
Mr Barfoot Frank, Mr Williamson and Mr Lock from The Royal British Legion said they thoroughly enjoyed the event and that they were pleased that very young children were still being reminded of the great sacrifices that many people had made in conflicts around the globe.
Head of Millfield Pre-Prep, Alison Blasdale says: “We believe it is very important that even the youngest of our children develop an awareness of the true message behind wearing a red poppy. We were very proud of our little ones who maintained their minute’s silence and stood quietly and respectfully whilst the Last Post was played.”
