Exciting film soundtracks in ‘A Prelude to Summer’ Concert
Pupils ranging from Year 2 to Year 8 eagerly performed to friends and family at the annual Summer Concert.
The Year 4 Orchestra, performing for the first time, set the tone for the evening with their two performances. They have only been playing their instruments for less than a year, but they can all be proud of their tenacity and optimism.
Following this, the Year 2 Violin Ensemble performed for the first time, demonstrating the same qualities as the Year 4 orchestra in their performances of John Brown’s Body and Patrick’s Reel.
The chamber ensembles of Oboe and Flute Group played with much skill and the Boss Meyer Brass lifted the mood with some popular film soundtracks.
The Junior Choir delivered two songs; the first about trust and building dreams, the second a song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang about always looking to the positives in life.
The Senior Choir, complete with body percussion, performed a song from the Disney film Brave titled Touch the Sky, before wowing the audience with the popular show tune Defying Gravity.
The Wind Band showed high levels of musicianship in their rousing opener Prismatic Light, before playing Scottish Dances, a light-hearted ceilidh. Both Junior Rock Bands and the Senior Rock Band had the audience clapping and singing along, while Jazz and Blues left everyone with a smile after some great improvisation.
The Orchestra performed a piece from the popular film composer John Williams, with everyone transported back to the 80’s listening to music from E.T.
The evening was rounded off in stunning style when all 111 pupils from the Senior and Junior Choir performed Coldplay’s Viva la Vida with the Orchestra.
All of the performers’ efforts were rewarded with a well-deserved ice-cream after the concert. A huge thank you must go to friends, family, staff and pupils who came to the concert, your support is very much appreciated.
