Psychology looks at the relationship between mind and behaviour using experiments to answer questions that have traditionally been in the domain of philosophy. It challenges personal biases, helping pupils explore their passage into adulthood.
Our approach makes the principles of scientific methodology relevant to pupils themselves. We firmly believe in a ‘hands-on’ approach – recreating key experiments whenever possible. Pupils study both theories and applications of psychology; learning about the history of psychology from early experimental psychology up to current social, cognitive and neuroscientific approaches. In their second year of A levels, pupils will also evaluate therapeutic approaches such as Freudian psychoanalysis and client-centred counselling.
