Etonhurst was originally sited from 1960 to 2002 in Ashcott. It was a large manor house housing 36 boys which during its time had seven different sets of houseparents. With pupil numbers ever increasing, Etonhurst moved on to campus and boarder numbers increased to 60. The house has three common rooms, music, games/DVD and a main meeting room which has a pool and football table, large flat screen TV and a projector and full screen. There is also a floodlit outside court for football, basketball and tennis.
Terry and Alicia Akhurst are the 8th set of houseparents to run Etonhurst and have done so for the last fourteen years. Terry is also a Mathematics tutor, and Head of Football/1st team coach; Alicia is matron at Etonhurst. They describe the house as family orientated, where solidarity is strong. This house strives to make its boys independent people, to be involved in the house and school programme and to look after each individual in the home.
Prior to joining Millfield, Terry was Principal of a school in Cape Town and a professional football coach at Ajax-Cape Town FC.
