History essay shortlisted for prestigious John Locke Institute Essay Competition
A Millfield Upper Sixth pupil’s essay on peace time has been shortlisted for the prestigious John Locke Institute Essay Competition.
Upper Sixth pupil Saskia Portman’s submission, which commented on Former United States Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger’s quote ‘those ages which in retrospect seem most peaceful were least in search of peace. Those whose quest for it seems unending appear least able to achieve tranquillity' in reference to events since 1945, was shortlisted out of 885 entries from 86 countries in 6 continents.
The highly competitive essay writing competition, with a coveted first prize of a fellowship to the institute, is run between Oxford University and Princeton University.
Saskia will now attend an awards ceremony, as well as an academic programme with the other shortlisted candidates from around the world, at Oxford University at the end of September.
